Prez: Evening Of A Basie-Ite

Lester Young • 2LP

19

Lester “Prez” Young was an American jazz tenor saxophonist and occasional clarinetist. He was one of the most influential players on his instrument. In contrast to many of his hard-driving peers, Young played with a relaxed, cool tone and used sophisticated harmonies. Also known for his hip, introverted style, he invented or popularized much of the hipster jargon which came to be associated with the music.

From 1933 up to 1941 he was a member of Count Basie’s orchestra, and this compilation double LP documents the final years of Prez with Basie’s orchestra which also features Billie Holiday on vocals on a large part of the recordings.

Comes in a gatefold sleeve with extensive liner notes. Sleeve has some stains but is in good shape overall. Vinyl plays perfect and sounds great!
