Coltrane’s first release for Impulse! features Coltrane’s working quartet augmented by a larger ensemble to bring the total number of participating musicians to 21, and features legendary performers such as McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones and Eric Dolphy. Its big band sound, with the unusual instrumentation of French horns and euphonium, presented music very different from anything that had been associated with Coltrane to date.

This is the 2012 reissue on Jazz Wax, pressed on 180 grams virgin vinyl and features “Song Of The Underground Railroad”, a bonus track from the same sessions which was not on the original LP. In excellent shape, but there’s a small seamsplit on the top.
