“The Monument Singles Collection” is a first-time compilation of all the the A and B-sides from Dolly’s early singles from her days at Monument Records, spanning the years 1964 to 1968.
At the age of 19, Dolly Parton signed with Monument Records where she was initially pitched as a bubblegum pop singer. She released several singles but only “Happy Birthday Baby” charted, and it failed to reach the Billboard. Although she wanted to record country material, Monument resisted, thinking her unusually high soprano voice was not suited to the genre. After Bill Phillips’ recording of her composition “Put It Off Until Tomorrow” reached the country charts in 1966, the label relented and allowed her to record country music. Her first country single “Dumb Blonde” reached number 24, and was followed by “Something Fishy”, which reached number 17.
The collection has been fully remastered from the original Monument Records mono master tapes and features liner notes from Holly George-Warren. The release is limited to 5000 copies worldwide.
