This compilation, sub-titled “Spanish Female Singers 1962-1974”, features 24 tracks from the Spanish yé-yé scene. Much like the French yé-yé scene, most of the songs are groovy little numbers infused with elements of beat, garage, R&B, soul, twist and Latin sounds. Although the arrangements tend not to be as grandiose as the French scene and the vocals are not always as girly, the music is never less than enjoyable. Focusing more on the beat as opposed to effortless cool, the album has an overall playful vibe. Most of the songs are sung in Spanish and there are a few cover versions, with a take of the Rolling Stones’ “Get Off My Cloud” (sung in Spanish) being the standout cover. Plenty of groovy R&B hipshakers and an overload of kitschy vibes!
