The eponymous debut album by The Doors was originally released in 1967. Since its release, the record has been often regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. It was recorded by producer Paul A. Rothchild and audio engineer Bruce Botnick at Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood, over the course of one week in August 1966. “Indian Summer” and “Moonlight Drive” were the first rehearsal outtakes of the album, while the first actual songs recorded that appeared being “I Looked At You” and “Take It As It Comes”. A four-track tape machine was used. Three tracks were recorded mostly: bass and drums on one, guitar and organ on another, and Morrison’s vocals on the third. The fourth track was used for overdubbing (mainly Morrison’s backings and bass guitar). Rothchild had forbidden Krieger to use any of his guitar pedals on the record to avoid dating. However, the studio was equipped with an echo chamber which gave that specific effect to the sound. The album was mixed and completed in October 1966. Although “Indian Summer” was recorded during the sessions and thought was given to including it as the final track, it was eventually replaced with “The End”.

We have the 2009 reissue available on vinyl LP (SOLD OUT) and digipack CD. The vinyl version is pressed on 180-gram virgin vinyl and presents the original stereo mixes, artwork and inner sleeves. The laquers were cut at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood under the direct supervision of Bruce Botnick. The CD version also contains the “Moonlight Drive” and “Indian Summer” bonus tracks, as well as an extensive booklet with liner notes. Both items are used but still in great shape.

We also have a different CD version (in a superjewelcase) for sale in the 40th Anniversary Collection bundle that includes all six albums plus the documentary DVD!
