The Awakening

“The Awakening” is the debut album by Swedish death metal band Merciless. The original album was recorded in 1989 and released by Norwegian label Deathlike Silence Productions in 1990. The original press was limited to 1000 CD’s and LP’s and is now considered one of the most rare and expensive albums in metal collecting. Mostly known as ANTI-MOSH 001 it was the first record released by Deathlike Silence Productions, the label of Øystein Aarseth (“Euronymous”) from Mayhem, who was murdered in 1993 by former bandmate Varg Vikernes (“Burzum”). “The Awakening” was there at the very beginning, before the Scandinavian death / black metal explosion. A true piece of metal history.
