Fear Of A Black Planet

Public Enemy • LP

22

“Fear Of A Black Planet” is Public Enemy’s third album, originally released in 1990 by Def Jam and produced by The Bomb Squad, who expanded on the sample-layered sound of their 1988 album “It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back”. Recorded during the golden age of hip hop, its assemblage of reconfigured and recontextualized aural sources preceded the sample clearance system that later emerged in the music industry. “Fear Of A Black Planet” explores themes of organization and empowerment within the black community, social issues affecting African Americans, and race relations at the time. The record’s criticism of institutional racism, white supremacy, and the power elite was partly inspired by Dr. Frances Cress Welsing’s views.

This is a recent brand new heavyweight repress in a glossy sleeve. It does not contain the printed inner sleeve that earlier pressings had. Amazing album, a must-have for any hiphop fan!
