Black Roots

Sugar Minott • LP

35

Lincoln Barrington Minott was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1956. He began his career in the sound systems while still a child, working as a selector for the Sound Of Silence Keystone outfit, before launching his own Gathering Of Youth sound system just as he hit his teens. “Black Roots” was the first album to appear on Sugar Minott’s own Black Roots label as well as on Island Records, and is often hailed as a reggae classic, which catches the singer on the cusp of the roots and dancehall phases, and with total control over his music. Original Island pressing in great shape!
