Pulp Fiction Singles

Ensemble of two original CD singles from 1994, released for promotion of the "Pulp Fiction" film soundtrack.

The first single contains "Misirlou", a folk song from the Eastern Mediterranean region, with origins in the Ottoman Empire. The original author of the song is not known, but Arabic, Greek and Jewish musicians were playing it by the 1920's. In 1962, Dick Dale rearranged the song as a solo instrumental rock guitar piece. During a performance, Dale was bet by a young fan that he could not play a song on only one string of his guitar. Dale's father and uncles were Lebanese-American musicians, and Dale remembered seeing his uncle play "Misirlou" on one string of the oud. He vastly increased the song's tempo to make it into rock & roll. And so, it was Dale's surf rock version that introduced "Misirlou" to a wider audience. The Beach Boys recorded a similar version for the 1963 album "Surfin' USA", solidifying "Misirlou" as a staple of American pop culture. In 1994, not only Dale's career was rebooted after "Misirlou" was made the opening theme for "Pulp Fiction", but the entire instrumental surf rock genre was popular again. Also on this CD single are an interview with Tarantino, and "You Never Can Tell" by Chuck Berry, including the movie dialogue.

The second single is Urge Overkill's version of the Neil Diamond classic "Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon", backed with "Bustin' Surfboards by the Tornadoes, another old surf banger. The items are not for sale seperately, you get both singles. The cardboard sleeve of the Urge Overkill single looks a bit used, the rest of both items is tip top.

Death Proof

Quentin Tarantino always puts together a mean soundtrack. As expected, there's a generous helping of dialogue and some recycled Ennio Morricone score here, but there's plenty for the beat-minded too, the best being Smith's soulful "Baby It's You" and Pacific Gas & Electric's take on the tale of "Staggolee." It also includes T-Rex's amazing "Jeepster", the Coasters' "Down In Mexico," the riotous drums of Eddie Beram's "Riot In Thunder Alley" and "Hold Tight" by the amazingly named Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich. A beautiful glossy sleeve and full-color movie stills put this "Death Proof" soundtrack vinyl over the top.

Item is used but still as good as new, including the printed inner sleeve!

Respect The Rock America

Split CD from 1999 by Gluecifer and the Hellacopters which was never officially released on vinyl. Contains Bob Seger, MC5 and Lynyrd Skynyrd covers along with a bunch of Hellacopters and Gluecifer originals. Original Man's Ruin pressing from 1999, as good as new. Great item!

Uprising

"Uprising" is the sixth full-length album by Swedish death metal pioneers Entombed. It was originally released in 2000. Musically, this album tones down the commercial alternative metal-stylings of "Same Difference" and returns to a heavier, more straight-forward rock n' roll approach to the death metal sound.

This is the 2023 remastered reissue on coloured vinyl which looks and sounds amazing.

Fresh Fish Special

Fire

"Fire" is a song written by Bruce Springsteen in 1977. He envisioned "Fire" as a song which could be recorded by his idol Elvis Presley. It was written after Springsteen saw Presley perform at a 1977 concert at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Springsteen sent Elvis a demo of the song but he died before it arrived.

The first released recording of "Fire" was by rockabilly singer Robert Gordon who had met Springsteen through E Street Band bass player Garry Tallent. They remained on friendly terms before Springsteen gave Gordon the song "Fire" after seeing a live gig by Gordon and Link Wray. Springsteen plays piano on the recording and Link Wray plays guitar. After this, the Pointer Sisters also recorded it, which became a massive hit.

The sleeve has significant wear but the vinyl is in great shape. The B-side label is pressed slightly off-center.
